Fiberpipe Project - Abagold
The history of Abagold dates back to 1991 when a pilot Abalone hatchery was set up in the Old Harbour in Hermanus. In 2013, the company reported a record growth of 310t and their hatchery produced a record 4.3 million spats. Fiberpipe is proud to have been associated with this leading producer of abalone, from as far back as 2009. During this initial project for the sea water supply upgrade, Abagold installed two sections of 700mm diameter Vectus GRP lines.
Christiaan de Wet, Abagold’s Engineering Manager says, in 2010, Abagold started with the design and development of a brand new water reticulation system. Construction started in 2011 and the system was commissioned in December of 2012. The complete pipeline set from the primary pumps to the filtration unit is made up of GRP Flowtite pipes that were supplied and manufactured by Fiberpipe.
Abagold has to-date installed and commissioned 825m of the 1200mm line, and a further 220m of the remaining 675m has been installed. The remaining sections will be installed in the near future.
“Heinrich Mostert and Jannie Liebenberg from Fiberpipe’s Cape Town branch are indeed a superb team to work with. Their technical expertise in their field is one of the key elements to the success of the project. Fiberpipe have delivered a high quality product, made according to specification and on time” says de Wet.
